Belarus has updated the regulation of assisted reproductive technologies (ART)

A resolution (link) of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Belarus dated 27 October 2025 No. 170 “On matters of applying assisted reproductive technologies” has been adopted.

The document elaborates on many aspects of the application of ART — from medical indications to procedures for examinations and the storage of biological materials.

What has been established:

  1. lists of medical indications and contraindications for the use of ART have been approved;
  2. medical contraindications for surrogacy and for the donation of gametes have been defined;
  3. a list of indications for embryo reduction has been introduced;
  4. diseases in respect of which the selection of the future child’s sex is permitted have been specified;
  5. new instructions have been approved on conducting medical examinations of patients and donors, the procedure for cryopreservation and storage of cells and embryos, as well as the procedure for creating a donor catalogue and enabling patients for acquaintance with it.

The following have ceased to have effect:

  • Resolution of the Ministry of Health dated 24 December 2019 No. 124 “On matters of applying assisted reproductive technologies”;
  • Resolution of the Ministry of Health dated 12 June 2024 No. 100.

Accordingly, the changes update the legal regulation of ART in Belarus and systematize the requirements applicable to procedures, patients and participants (donors, surrogate mothers).

The new regulation entered into force on 14 December 2025.
